How to Tag Your Contacts

Tags can be used to segment your contacts based on their activity, and ultimately used when sending Campaigns and Automations. There are a few ways you can use the tag tool; Manually tagging contact when adding them individually, tagging a link that a contact clicks thus adding the tag to their email, or using an automation funnel to tag contacts.

After tagging contacts, sending emails to specific audiences will be like emailing a segmented list of contacts. This is a great tool to target a group of contacts.

Creating a New Tag

Navigate to the Audience tab → Tags → Select the pink New Tag button in the upper right corner. Name your tag and select Save

Deleting a Tag

Navigate to the Audience tab → Tags → Select the drop down next to Edit. Here you will see the Delete option.

Tagging a New Contact When Added Manually

While manually adding your new contacts information you will have the option to add a tag as well. This can be any identifier you feel you need for this specific audience you will be adding this contact to.

Within the navigation bar to the left select Audience → Lists → Select which list to add them to → Add Contact. Here you will be able to enter information for Quick Add of the contacts information. Click Create when done to save the information.

Tagging a Link

When a link is tagged this allows you to tag contacts that click specific links, making them easier to target with your email campaigns.

  • For Example: If we tag the link for our free trial, we can now send a specific email to those that clicked the link following up with them on their test drive.

1. Head to your  Campaigns tab → Edit (next to the campaign name) → Designs. Or select New Campaign to start a new email.

2. Highlight which link you would like to tag, select the Link icon and enter the tag name within the settings next to the URL. You can either use a previously created one or create a new one.

Tagging an Image or Button

1. Head to your  Campaigns tab → Edit (next to the campaign name) → Designs. Or select New Campaign to start a new email.

2. Select the button or image that you want to add the link and tag to and you will see the areas to add the information in the settings area to the left. You can either use a previously created one or create a new one.

Tagging Contacts in Your Automation Funnel

Using the Add Tag function within the Automation Funnel can be a great way to tag contacts in multiple ways.

To add the tag function: + → Update Contact Property → Add Tag.

New Contacts - Add an Add Tag function, found under Update Contact Property, right after the Subscribes to a List trigger to tag a newly added contact of this list.

After a Conditional Split - Use this to tag a contact that has either opened or did not open a specific email campaign.

Once the tag is added to the contact information via a tagged link, manually added or through the automation funnel it will appear under their information as so:

TL;DR:

Tags are a great tool to target a group of contacts.

New Tag: Audience → Tags → New Tag → Name → Save

Delete Tag: Audience → Tags → Drop Down next to Edit → Delete

Manually Add: Audience → Lists → Add Contact → Add Tag → Save
