How to update a contact's lists and tags with automations

Overview

You can update the lists contacts are subscribed to and tags applied to their profiles with automations. Read on to learn how to use the update contact property nodes.

Add an Update Contact Property node to an automation

To add an update contact property node to an automation:

  1. Click the + icon to add a new node to your automation.
  2. Under Actions, click Update Contact Property
  3. Select an update contact property node to add to your automation

Move to List

To move contacts from one list to another at a specified step in your automation:

  1. Click the + button
  2. Click Update Contact Property
  3. Click Move to List
  4. In the Move to List dropdown, select a list you want contacts to be added to once they reach this step
  5. In the From List dropdown, select the list you want to remove contacts from
  6. Click Done

Add to List

  1. Click the + button
  2. Click Update Contact Property
  3. Click Add to List
  4. In the Select List dropdown, select a list you want contacts to be added to once they reach this step
  5. Click Done

Remove from List

⚠️ If your Automation removes contacts from a list that triggers the automation, make sure the Remove from List action is the last action in the automation

  1. Click the + button
  2. Click Update Contact Property
  3. Click Remove From List
  4. In the Select List dropdown, select a list you want contacts to be removed from once they reach this step
  5. Click Done

Add Tag

  1. Click the + button
  2. Click Update Contact Property
  3. Click Add Tag
  4. In the Select Tag dropdown, select a tag you want added to contacts' profiles once they reach this step
  5. Click Done

Remove Tag

  1. Click the + button
  2. Click Update Contact Property
  3. Click Remove Tag
  4. In the Select Tag dropdown, select a tag you want removed from contacts' profiles once they reach this step
  5. Click Done
